Borough Hall

The Borough Hall and Market Buildings were opened in 1866. At that time the principal offices and Police Station were also housed there.

Some of the former police cells are now modern toilets for people using the Constable's bar. The doors which lead you to the toilets are the original ones which kept prisoners in their cells. The intricate details have been kept intact – including the little hatches which police officers used to keep an eye on the inmates and inside the toilets, the original bars remain on the windows.
