| Practising Conscious Living and Dying by Annamaria Hemingway The author approached me about a review copy of this book and as it was not something I'd usually go for, I felt compelled to take a look. As it turned out it was a very good read and even helped my sceptical mind soften slightly as I read the accounts of people who experienced near death experiences and out of body experiences. The stories show how strong we are and how an incident in someone's life can have a major impact on others - in some cases in an extremely positive way. Some accounts are stunning and moving, others leave you wondering if there really is something more to this life. In addition to a number of true accounts by various contributors, Annamaria adds some interesting research on the continuum of consciousness. Hauntedland Rating: OOOOO Well written and moving book that can inspirational and give you some hope in the strength humankind. |

Hauntedland Rating: OOOOO Excellent book but could have done with some photographs of the phenomena he talked about. |
| Ghost Hunters: A Guide to Investigating the Paranormal by Yvette Fielding, Ciaran O'Keeffe From the presenters of Living TV's Most Haunted, GHOST HUNTERS is an explosive guide that opens the world of ghosts to new initiates and serious fans. It contains "exclusive" case files from Yvette Fielding and Ciaran O'Keefe's own investigations, carried out expressly for the book. It also discusses the history of hauntings, and the pros and cons of various investigative techniques - as well as spooky phenomena like orbs and poltergeists, and how to tell if you've really seen a ghost. In Part One Yvette and Ciaran re-open the case files of some of the world's most famous hauntings, including the Enfield poltergeist and the original Exorcist, and come to new conclusions based on today's expertise. In Part Two, Yvette and Ciaran have chosen five new cases never examined before and carried out their own investigations, in locations including a Cheshire family home, a deserted shipyard and an abandoned church - now used as a night club. Thoroughly researched and full of exciting new material, this is THE ghost book for the serious fan. Hauntedland Rating: OOOOO Enjoyed reading this but some things could have had more explanations or photographs. |
| Most Haunted: The Official Behind-the-Scenes Guide by Yvette Fielding, Derek Acorah What do ghosts sound like? What do they look like? What do mediums see? What exactly is an orb? Find out what really happened at Owlpen Manor, Brannigan's Nightclub and the Drury Lane Theatre. And how did Derek feel when he was possessed by the spirit of the evil Mr. Godfrey Parks? Most Haunted will fascinate and intrigue both sceptics and believers alike. Hauntedland Rating: OOOOO This was a good read, but marked down because of Derek Acorah - still comes across as over dramatic even in a book! |

Expected to find it boring but in fact really enjoyed it. Not normally the kind of book I'd go for. Did trail off at the end though. |
| The Skeptic's Dictionary: A Collection of Strange Beliefs, Amusing Deceptions, and Dangerous Delusions by Robert Todd Carroll Robert Carroll has compiled an impressive collection of short articles in a dictionary format, which sets out to define and explain ideas that warrant careful critical examination. Carroll pulls no punches in his criticism of whacky, cultish ideas, yet he does not brazenly skewer all sacred cows. He sets out to expose a wide range of ideas with light-hearted scepticism, exposes blatant charades for what they are, explicates ideas that are often misconstrued or irrationally rejected, and casts doubt where doubt is due. Hauntedland Rating: OOOOO Covers a lot of things and has been very useful during my research, but has on occasions, not included things which I felt should have been in. |
| How Psychic Are You?: Understand and Develop Your Natural Psychic Ability by Paul Roland Learn to harness the inherent psychic powers, which we all possess, to make positive improvements to your life. Feel more self-aware, confident and in control of your own life. Practice simple exercises to recognize and develop your psychic ability. Throughout the book there are tips to test your progress by means of simple questionnaires. Hauntedland Rating: OOOOO I'm not saying this isn't a good book, but it was not for me. Too 'designed' and with overly religious overtones. Put me off after a few pages. |
| How to Meet and Work with Spirit Guides by Ted Andrews According to the author of this text, we often experience spirit contact in our lives but fail to recognize it for what it is. As a solution, this book shows how to access and attune to beings such as guardian angels, nature spirits and elementals, spirit totems, archangels, gods and goddesses, as well as family and friends after their physical death. Hauntedland Rating: OOOOO As with the book above, it involved angels and God. Seemed very complex. I tend to believe that spirits are not necessarily a product of a God or religion. |
